Economic Development
Triangle J encourages the growth, advancement, and competitiveness of local businesses, industries, and trade through collaboration with other economic development groups to promote globalization of our region's economy. A major effort of our Economic Development program is the administration of Foreign Trade Zone #93 (FTZ). Triangle J works with the US and NC Departments of Commerce in administering all FTZ activities in the region and across the state. These efforts support the operations of such companies as Dudson, Merck, GE Aircraft and others. The FTZ program also has assisted local governments such as the City of Durham, Durham County, the City of Raleigh, Wake County, the Town of Holly Springs, and others in establishing FTZ subzones to aid economic interests in the region.
Other Triangle J Economic Development activities include:
- Encouraging and coordinating the establishment of various extended area telephone service and the continual effort towards an affordable, regional telephone system
- Supporting the Regional Marketing Group, which promotes regional cooperation among chambers of commerce and local governments and other key groups involved in the region's economic development
- Working with the Raleigh-Durham International Airport to increase the number of airlines serving the area and the frequency and destinations of international passenger and cargo departures.
- Creating and producing the Greater Triangle Metro Map, a widely-marketed road map of the Triangle
- Supporting the efforts of the World Trade Center North Carolina, part of a network of over 300 centers providing reciprocal business services and facilities in more than 100 countries around the globe
